The journalist fraternity express their reservations upon the inquiry committee formed to probe the murder of senior journalist Shan Dahar, has demanded of the government to constitute committee of capable officers and ensure arrest of the culprits and provide protection and compensation to slain journalist’s family.
General Secretary Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists Amin Yousuf, Zaheer Ahmed Khan, Abdul Qudoos Mushtaq Sarki, Baboo Iqbal and others put this demand while addressing a big gathering of the journalists in Jinnah Bagh situated opposite Larkana press club on Sunday. They said that, majority of the journalists are working in unfavourable circumstances to bring factual position before the people. Its our duty to make the government aware about the problems of the masses, besides unearthing corruption in government departments, they said.
They said, it is being experienced since long that, the influential people are involved in hurling threats of dire consequences to the honest and dedicated journalists. Not only this, but many of the journalists have been killed by the vested interest influential persons and many have been attacked and injured, they added. But, we would like to let them know that, we will not succumb to their heinous designs and will continue to work with honesty and dedication and will not hesitate to lay our lives in this noble cause, the journalist’s leaders vowed.
They said, the journalism is not the bed of roses rather one has to be ready for the worst. Despite tall claims by the government for providing protection to the journalists, they went on saying, many journalists have been killed, but not a single culprit has far been nabbed. They said, it was quite unfortunate that, the journalists, who use to raise voice for the rights of the people, have gathered today to get their legitimate rights. Shan Dahar’s murder is the worst example of tyranny adding that, he was silenced, because he was raising voice against the wrong doings of influential persons.
Strongly condemning cold blooded murder of Shan Dahar they said, such incidents cannot stop us from performing our duties with honesty and dedication rather we want to tell those elements, behind the murder of Shan Dahar and other journalists that, such murders cannot pave hurdles in our way. On this occasion the PFUJ leaders ensured Shan Dahar’s family of complete support and added that, we are committed to take all out efforts for the welfare of the journalist community. Further KUJ and PFUJ present Rupees One Hundred Thousand Cheque to the family of deceased Shan Dahar.
Large number of journalists from Hyderabad, Karachi, Shaheed Benazeer Abad, Khairpur, Sukkur, Pir Jo Goth, Shikarpur, Multan rani pur Kotdeji and other cities and towns attended the protest demonstration. President Sukkur Union of Journalist Imran Sahil and general secretary Perwaiz Khan led the delegation of journalists from Sukkur, while Sufi Ishaq led the delegation from Khairpur. The journalists reposing their confidence in the leadership of PFUJ Rana Azeem and Ameen Yousuf said that, they are united under the banner of PFUJ and will struggle together for the just rights of the journalists.
