Islamabad (September 13, 2025): Petrol prices in Pakistan are expected to rise in the upcoming fortnightly fuel price review, effective September 16, 2025. According to industry reports, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has finalized its recommendations and will forward them to the Petroleum Division on September 15. The summary will then be reviewed by the Ministry of Finance and sent to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for final approval.

Current Petrol & Diesel Prices in Pakistan

Fuel Type Current Price (PKR/Litre)
Petrol Rs. 264.61
High Speed Diesel Rs. 285.83
Light Speed Diesel Rs. 159.76
Kerosene Oil Rs. 176.81

Expected Fuel Prices from September 16, 2025

Fuel Type Expected Increase (PKR) New Price (PKR/Litre)
Petrol +1.54 Rs. 266.18
High Speed Diesel +4.79 Rs. 290.62
Kerosene Oil +3.06 Rs. 179.87
Light Speed Diesel +3.68 Rs. 163.44

Why Prices May Rise

Analysts attribute the expected hike to:

  • Global oil market fluctuations and rising crude oil prices.

  • Exchange rate volatility between the Pakistani rupee and US dollar.

  • Adjustments in import and refining costs.

These factors collectively impact the government’s fortnightly fuel price reviews.

Impact on Consumers

If approved, the price hike will add more pressure on:

  • Transporters, leading to higher fares.

  • Farmers and industries, due to increased diesel costs.

  • Households, as kerosene and light diesel become more expensive.

The increase comes at a time when inflation is already weighing heavily on citizens.

Final Word

While the final notification will be issued on September 15, all indications suggest a rise in petrol and diesel prices from September 16, 2025. Citizens are advised to plan fuel purchases accordingly as the adjustment could impact both daily travel costs and commodity prices in the coming weeks.
